I know everyone is eager to know what went on in Hawaii. Nothing yet. A great deal of effort was applied by victims with their stories and physicians who sent the scientific evidence that aspartame isn't safe to Rep Josh Green, M.D., and Vice Chair Rep John Mizuno, with copies to the entire committee.

At the meeting there were a handful of arguments from the other side and some testimonies of victims. None of the excellent testimony of physician experts and scientists was read. They had been sent but mysteriously disappeared! This was posted on the legislature's website by Rep. John Green, M.D.:

"Although Rep. Josh Green (D-North Kona) sympathized with supporters who have been affected by the artificial sweetener aspartame, he was unable to immediately pass a bill that would ban the artificial sweetener aspartame in food products without concrete evidence showing a connection betweenaspartame and medical ailments. We can't take numerous amounts of products off Hawaii store shelves without evidence of a connection, he said."

So voting on the bill has been deferred until Wednesday, February 13. Dr. Green would like about 400 letters from physicians, scientists and professionals. We have many physicians on our list and we ask that all write and pass this request on to their lists of physicians as well. I'm also asking that all victims on our Aspartame Information List on http://www.mpwhi.com write as well as those on the Mission Possible lists. We can get this done. Every letter counts. This is being sent to other lists too. Doctors who have done studies on aspartame should give the URL or web site to that study. Anything over 5 pages must be faxed. Address e-mails to:

Rep Josh Green, M.D. at repgreen@Capitol.hawaii.gov
Rep. John Mizuno at repmizuno@Capitol.hawaii.gov

Also please send a blind copy to the whole committee, and myself:

"Sen. Suzanne Chun Oakland" senchunoakland@Capitol.hawaii.gov

Please ask that your testimony be copied and circulated.

H. J. Roberts, M.D., sent his encyclopedic 1000 page medical text, "ASPARTAME DISEASE: AN IGNORED EPIDEMIC" to Dr. Green. We hope the entire committee will review it. http://www.sunsentpress.com

Today James Turner, the renowned consumer attorney and former Nader Raider who fought against the approval of aspartame with neuroscientist Dr. John Olney explained: "The toxicity of this deadly carcinogen is well known. The FDA not only refused to approve aspartame for years, but asked the Department of Justice to indict G.D. Searle, the manufacturer, for submitting fraudulent test reports to get the poison approved. The evidence was overwhelming and Searle's case was impossible to defend, so their attorneys seduced the federal prosecutors, Sam Skinner and Wm. Conlon, who negotiated for jobs with Searle's lawyers while they were supposed to prosecuting Searle! Before switching sides they stalled until the statute of limitations was about to run out so Searle couldn't be prosecuted later. Justice died, as have thousands of aspartame victims in the 25 years since.

"The Board of Inquiry of the FDA revoked the petition for approval since aspartame couldn't be proven safe and triggered brain tumors. Thus science never proved aspartame safe. Don Rumsfeld was CEO of Searle at the time and said he would "call in his markers" to get it on the market. That he did. So aspartame is here today because of political chicanery, not science. FDA scientist, Dr. Adrian Gross and FDA toxicologist Dr. Jacqueline Verrett testified against aspartame before Congress for it being on the market. It violates the Delaney Amendment because it triggers brain tumors and brain cancer, adulteration statutes and Interstate Commerce." http://www.wnho.net/delaney_lives.htm

The Congressional and Administrative News: Legislative History of Food Additives Amendment of 1958 (p. 5302) declares: "Safety requires proof of reasonable certainty that no harm will result from the proposed use of an additive ... In determining the 'safety' of an additive, scientists must take into consideration the cumulative effect of such additive in the diet of man or animal over their respective life spans together with any chemically or pharmacologically related substances in such diet. Thus, the safety of an additive in such diet. Thus, the safety of a given additive involves informed judgements based on educated estimates by scientists and experts of the anticipated ingestion of an additive by man and animals under likely patterns of use"

Original studies produced brain tumors and brain cancer as well as testicular, mammary and ovarian tumors plus grand mal seizures and an extensive list of other disabilities. Studies by Searle in Dr. Olney's lab (so he could see for himself) showed brain damage but they never sent the report to the FDA. This data is in the documentary, "Sweet Misery: A Poisoned World", http://www.soundandfury.tv

This paragraph alone should be the death knell for aspartame. First of all, aspartame is only masquerading as an additive and is an addictive excitoneurotoxic carcinogenic drug that interacts with other drugs and vaccines. Martha M. Freeman, M.D., of the FDA Division of Metabolic and Endocrine Drug Products concluded even back in 1973 about Searle's studies:

"1. The administration of aspartame, as reported in these studies at high dosage levels for prolonged periods, constitutes clinical investigational use of a new "drug" substance."

2. The information submitted for our review is inadequate to permit a scientific evaluation of clinical safety."

As to life time study of aspartame on animals, Dr. M. Soffritti showed in a 2005 study that aspartame is a multipotential carcinogen: http://www.Ramazzini.it

"Aspartame (APM) is one of the most widely used artificial sweeteners in the world. Its ever-growing use in more than 6000 products, such as soft drinks, chewing gum, candy, desserts, etc., has been accompanied by rising consumer concerns regarding its safety, in particular its potential long-term carcinogenic effects. In light of the inadequacy of the carcinogenicity bioassays performed in the 1970s and 1980s, a long-term mega-experiment on APM was undertaken at the Cesare Maltoni Cancer Research Center of the European Ramazzini Foundation on groups of male and female Sprague-Dawley rats (100-150/sex/group), 8 weeks old at the start of the experiment. APM was administered in feed at concentrations of 100,000, 50,000, 10,000, 2,000, 400, 80, or 0 ppm. Treatment lasted until spontaneous death of the animals. The results of the study demonstrate that APM causes: (a) an increased incidence of malignant tumor-bearing animals, with a positive significant trend in both sexes, and in particular in females treated at 50,000 ppm (Pd 0.01) when compared to controls; (b) an increase in lymphomas-leukemias, with a positive significant trend in both sexes, and in particular in females treated at doses of 100,000 (Pd 0.01), 50,000 (Pd 0.01), 10,000 (Pd 0.05), 2000 (Pd 0.05), and 400 ppm (Pd 0.01); (c) a statistically significant increased incidence, with a positive significant trend, of transitional cell carcinomas of the renal pelvis and ureter in females and particularly in those treated at 100,000 ppm (Pd 0.05); and (d) an increased incidence of malignant schwannomas of the peripheral nerves, with a positive trend in males (Pd 0.05). The results of this mega-experiment indicate that APM, in the tested experimental conditions, is a multipotential carcinogenic agent."

In 2007 Soffritti's new study: "Lifespan Exposure to Low Doses of Aspartame Beginning During Prenatal Life Increases Cancer Effects in Rats" confirmed damage from low-dosage aspartame consumption over the long term and clearly demonstrated a great danger to unborn babies and children.

Newly identified is risk of breast cancer as the aspartame using child matures. Exposures were at low doses. A 20 kg (45 pounds) child drinking 2 cans of diet soda a day brings into his body 400 mg. of aspartame. Food & Drink Weekly reports that soda is the most commonly consumed beverage among children and soft drink consumption is up 500% over the last 50 years. American consumption has skyrocketed to over 600 12-ounce servings per person per year, and climbing. Coke's goal is to jump sales 25% annually. The aim of Soffritti's new study was to identify the cancer risk aspartame presents, starting with the mother's ingestion before the fetus is born. The study was conducted on groups of 70-95 male and female Sprague Dawley rats, administered aspartame with feed at concentrations of 2000, 400, or 0 ppm from the 12th day of fetal life until natural death. The results of this carcinogenicity bioassay confirm and reinforce the earlier study's demonstration of aspartame's multipotential carcinogenicity. Further, the study demonstrates that when lifespan exposure to aspartame begins during fetal life, its carcinogenic effects magnify.Dr. Philip Landrigan, Chairman of Community and Environmental Medicine at Mt. Sinai Medical Center, says Dr. Soffritti's study on rats strongly implies human risk. He advises parents of young children to think very very carefully about giving drinks and other aspartame-contaminated foods to children. He advocates federal action be taken to review regulation of aspartame and that the chemical be submitted for precise critical investigation. The abstract and link to the full text to be published on EHP online, is on the homepage of the European Ramazzini Foundation: http//="www.ramazzini.it

Aspartame carcinogenicity was known by the FDA for decades: On August 1, l985 FDA's own toxicologist, Dr. Adrian Gross, told Congress at least one of Searle's studies "has established beyond ANY REASONABLE DOUBT that aspartame is capable of inducing brain tumors in experimental animals and that this predisposition of it is of extremely high significance. ... In view of these indications that the cancer causing potential of aspartame is a matter that had been established WAY BEYOND ANY REASONABLE DOUBT, one can ask: What is the reason for the apparent refusal by the FDA to invoke for this food additive the so-called Delaney Amendment to the Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act?"

The Delaney Amendment makes it illegal to allow any residues of cancer causing chemicals in foods. In his concluding testimony Gross asked, "Given the cancer causing potential of aspartame how would the FDA justify its position that it views a certain amount of aspartame as constituting an allowable daily intake or 'safe' level of it? Is that position in effect not equivalent to setting a 'tolerance' for this food additive and thus a violation of that law? And if the FDA itself elects to violate the law, who is left to protect the health of the public?" Congressional Record SID835:131 (August 1, l985)

Dr H. J. Roberts medical text goes into the interaction of aspartame with drugs as does Excitotoxins: The Taste That Kills by neurosurgeon Russell Blaylock, M.D., http://www.russellblaylockmd.com His CD "The Truth About Aspartame" http://www.atavistik.com discusses the Ramazzini Study in detail.

Pass this on so that Rep Josh Green, M.D., and the House Committee on Health understands aspartame is a chemical poison and must be banned to save the people of Hawaii. There is an epidemic of diabetes and aspartame (NutraSweet/Equal/Spoonful/E951/Canderel, etc.) can not only precipitate diabetes but simulates and aggravates diabetic retinopathy and neuropathy, destroys the optic nerve, causes diabetics to go into convulsions and even interacts with insulin. The free methyl alcohol is causing them to lose their limbs. How bad can aspartame get? It even embalms living tissue and damages DNA: http://www.mpwhi.com/formaldehyde_from_aspartame.pdf Below my signature is full information on House and even important Senate emails and fax numbers.
