This is in response to the Washington Post article, "Artificial Sweeteners: They're Enough to Give Some People a Headache." Which may be found at: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/02/13/AR2009021302407.html
Now I've heard it all. I wonder if Michael Jacobson uses Diet Soda because memory loss is so prevalent its #9 on the FDA list of 92 documented symptoms on aspartame.
First of all, when ABC discussed the Ramazzini Study showing aspartame to be a multipotential carcinogen Michael Jacobson said Diet Soda was needed because of obesity. Michael Jacobson of CSPI has always known how deadly aspartame is because he wrote about and its deadly effects in the beginning. Here is his 1985 report: http://www.wnho.net/cspi_1.htm His memory loss interfered again when he advocated diet drinks with full knowledge, but after exposing his first report he called for a ban: http://www.wnho.net/cspi_2.htm Here is the press release on the call for a ban with the names of 12 toxicologists: http://www.mpwhi.com/aspartame_letter_to_FDA.pdf This was after the second Ramazzini Study showed not only is aspartame a multipotential carcinogen but even in small amounts and passed on through the mother, if the baby survives since it causes birth defects and is an abortifacient.
Obviously Michael Jacobson has forgotten all this as he says: "I'd rather people drink diet soda than regular soda. You've got to weigh the speculative risk of cancer against the certain risks of obesity and calorie displacement." Somebody call Jacobson a doctor. He's suffering from memory loss again on what he's done in the past. He also has forgotten all the posts and studies like that of Sharon Fowler linking diet soda with obesity. So with aspartame in diet soda you can not only become obese but get cancer and any of the other horrible diseases in the medical text, 1000 pages, Aspartame Disease: An Ignored Epidemic, http://www.sunsentpress.com by H. J. Roberts, M.D.
Michael, do you only want a ban on Mondays and Tuesdays but its alright to drink aspartame diet soda on Wednesdays and Fridays? If you want to get fat NutraSweet is Where It's at.
As to diet chewing gum with aspartame its one of the worst because since aspartame is really a drug, a neurotoxin; it works like nitroglycerin under the tongues, goes straight to the brain through saliva. http://www.wnho.net/aspartame_absorption.htm
The professional organizations like the American Dietetic Assn., and American Diabetic Assn get their funding from industry and defend aspartame. The American Diabetic Assn had racketeering charges filed against them in 2004 on the aspartame issue even though they got out of it. So they can't say they didn't know, besides the fact they have been receiving letters for years.
The FDA report lists 92 symptoms from headache and seizures to coma and death.
Splenda is a chlorocarbon poison: http://www.wnho.net/splenda_chlorocarbon.htm
There is a safe sweetener called Just Like Sugar http://www.justlikesugarinc.com and is made of chicory and orange peel, Vitamin C and Calcium. You can also get it at places like Whole Foods.
Stevia is safe when its pure from the green leaf, no additives. Articles about Truvia can be found on http://www.mpwhi.com
Michael Jacobson, you call for more and better science, yet you disregard it such as studies linking diet soda with obesity like the Fowler Study in Texas. I've told you before to get a copy of the medical text, Aspartame Disease: An Ignored Epidemic, http://www.sunsentpress.com by H. J. Roberts, M.D. How you can equate cancer and obesity and tell people its better to drink diet soda is beyond me. Perhaps you haven't seen the agony many have died from aspartame cancer. Aspartame breaks down to diketopiperazine, a brain tumor agent, and so many aspartame addicts have died of them.
A copy is being sent to Jennifer Huget who wrote the article with this detox formula by Dr. Russell Blaylock, M.D., neurosurgeon, http://www.wnho.net/wtdaspartame.htm
