Phoenix Organics initiative against aspartame will save many lives. Your former Health Minister, the Honorable Pete Hodgson, with Minister/Education Steve Maharey made the deal with Coke to leave only diet drinks in schools. Minister Hodgson knew aspartame damages children.

On 26 Oct. 2007 he responded: "The "Report for Schools, Ob-Gyn and Pediatricians on Children & Aspartame/MSG, to which you refer in your correspondence, states that aspartame is the cause of many health-related problems in young children, and that it increases the risk of obesity. Therefore, products containing aspartame should not be served in schools. As I made clear in my previous letter from September 2007, the Ministry of Health does not recommend diet drinks to be consumed by children in schools."
If children shouldn't drink it, you shouldn't give it to them! Obviously, If they are in the schools they will consume them. Aspartame/NutraSweet/Equal/E951 reduces IQ, triggers psychiatric and behavioral problems, memory loss, confusion, blindness, obesity, diabetes and many other diseases described in the medical text, "Aspartame Disease: An Ignored Epidemic" by H. J. Roberts, M.D., who was named "The Best Doctor in the United States" by an American Medical Journal in 1984.The book lists 1000 pages of horrors. It's a teratogen that causes birth defects and mental retardation, so we have a generation of damaged children. I advised the Minister that since the Ministry does not recommend diet drinks for children they should be removed from your schools. Then the Honorable David Cunliffe became your Health Minister. He acknowledged my letter.
The National Soft Drink Association declared in their protest against the chemical: "Aspartame is inherently, markedly and uniquely unstable in aqueous media. In a liquid such as a soft drink, aspartame will degrade as a function of temperature and pH. Higher temperatures and more acidic liquids increase the rate of degradation. The inability to account for as much as thirty-nine percent of aspartame's decomposition products is significant." Further they wrote: "G. D. Searle and Company has not demonstrated to a reasonable certainty that the use of aspartame in soft drinks will not adversely affect human health as a result of the changes such use is likely to cause in the brain chemistry. Collectively, the extensive deficiencies in the stability studies conducted by Searle render those studies inadequate and unreliable."
This protest was recorded in the Congressional Record, Senate, of May 7, l985. By that time Don Rumsfeld, head of the aspartame maker had successfully used his clout to get Searle's poison approved. Since then the effects of using humans as a population of lab rats has confirmed deadliness of this poison. We have a global epidemic of Rumsfeld's Plague.
The FDA revoked the petition for approval http://www.mpwhi.com/fda_petition1.doc because aspartame triggered brain tumors. It breaks down into Diketopiperazine, a brain tumor agent. I congratulate Phoenix Organics for fighting the poisoning of the children of New Zealand. It's all a matter of public record, completely documented. Amazingly, the New Zealand Food Safety Authority refused to either let me address them or to accept the voluminous medical and scientific records I brought from America. Rather, they distribute aspartame producer Ajinomoto's propaganda, and by the fact Ajinomoto then uses it for advertisement purposes seals the connection. They have hijacked the lives and health of kiwi's.
The publicity we stirred up convinced many to quit aspartame and they enthusiastically reported how their symptoms disappeared. Meanwhile NZFSA, acting as Ajinomoto's advertising agent, issued press releases telling the public not to listen. This is a shameful betrayal of the lives and health of Kiwis! Your Food Safety Authority has become Ajinomoto's New Zealand Branch Office!
In a meeting with Food Standards, a different agency, they admitted no studies were done in NZ, they just relied on the good old FDA. Our Food and Drug Administration, under corporate pressure, regularly approves deadly drugs. They receive a large part of their funding from the business they regulate, so who do you think they really work for, citizens or corporations? Coke should be told: "You knew aspartame was a poison when the NSDA opposed it, and we don't want NZ children to have it. Remove it from schools. Our children are more important to us than your profit!"
Parents should simply demand that Coke machines be removed. A new Purdue University Study proved that artificial sweeteners cause weight gain. The obesity epidemic in America coincides with the introduction of aspartame. A study in 2005 by Sharon Fowler of the University of Texas using 8 years of data linked diet drinks with obesity. Neurosurgeon Russell Blaylock, M.D., published an Athlete Alert connecting aspartame with sudden cardiac death in athletes. In America they're installing defibrillators in schools to revive athletes who suffer sudden cardiac arrest during competition. So there you have it, New Zealand, Diet Coke plus defibrillators give you seven minutes to save your son's life.Why not, for the sake of living, just eliminate both? Dr. Blaylock's book: Health and Nutrition Secrets to Save Your Life warns: "So in the case of diet drinks in aluminum cans, the very toxic brain aluminum fluoride compound co-exists with multiple toxins found in aspartame, thus creating the most powerful government-approved toxic soup imaginable."
Aspartame liberates methyl (wood) alcohol, a deadly cumulative narcotic that causes chronic methanol poisoning. This effects the dopamine system of the brain and causes the addiction. Coke must not continue addicting Kiwi children! As Dr. Blaylock said, "The reactions to aspartame are not allergic but toxic like arsenic and cyanide". The label should read: Genocide: Keep out of reach of humans.

Phoenix Calls on Govt to Scrap Agreement Forcing Aspartame on Kids
Phoenix Organics CEO Stefan Lepionka has called on Food Safety Minister Lianne Dalziel and Health Minister David Cunliffe to scrap the Voluntary Schools Beverage Statement in light of new research from Purdue University that artificial sweeteners may make it tougher, not easier, to lose weight.
Given that the Voluntary Schools Beverage Statement was agreed as part of a package of measures aimed at reducing childhood obesity, it seems utterly irresponsible to force our kids to drink artificially sweetened beverages that may make them fatter, said Stefan Lepionka.
Coca Cola has already started completely replacing its range of drinks in schools with aspartame-sweetened drinks some 9 months ahead of the 2009 timeline and in spite of a growing body of research showing aspartame can affect children's behaviour.
The voluntary agreement between Government and the beverage companies was hailed in late 2006 by then ministers of Education and Health Steve Maharey and Pete Hodgson as the worlds first to be negotiated directly between government and industry leaders.
The researchers from Purdue University found that sweet foods may prompt the body to get ready to take in a lot of calories, but when sweetness in the form of artificial sweeteners is not followed by a large amount of calories, he body gets confused, which may lead to eating more or expending less energy than normal.
Given the risks that new studies about the artificial sweetener aspartame are confirming just about every day, I would say this agreement is more an example of world class stupidity.
These Ministers hailed an accord that allows the drinks companies to make even bigger profits by substituting a dangerous chemical for more expensive and natural sugar, while countries like France and Britain have moved to ban all drinks except water from sale in their schools.
Phoenix Organics launched its Think Before You Drink campaign late last year to raise awareness of the possible health risks associated with aspartame.
Initiatives undertaken to date include:
