Dear Ms. Griffith-Sackey:

As Dr. H. J. Roberts said in his first book: "Methyl alcohol (methanol, wood alcohol), the third breakdown product of aspartame, is a metabolic poison. It can cause serious tissue damage - especially blindness - and even death.

"Rarely found in nature as its "free" form, methyl alcohol is usually derived or produced from other substances. It made headlines .. when 25 persons in Italy died after drinking table wine containing 5.7 percent methanol. In one series of patients with methyl alcohol poisoning (Bennett 1952), the lowest fatal dose was three teaspoons of 40 percent methanol.

"As a known poison, it is logical to consider the possible role of methyl alcohol in reactions to aspartame-containing products. This applies especially to eye and neuropsychiatric complaints."

Dr. Roberts goes onto to say that one liter of most aspartame-sweetened soft drinks contains about 55 mg methanol. He says the amount of methanol ingested by heavy consumers of aspartame products could readily exceed 250 mg daily (Monte l984). This is 32 times the limit of consumption allowed by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in the US.

He also says that survivors of severe methanol intoxication have developed Parkinsonism, dementia and other neurological abnormalities ... as well as blindness (McLean 1980). In aspartame there is a methyl ester which immediately becomes methanol, 10 per cent by weight. However, it's free and unbound. It converts to formaldehyde and formic acid and causes metabolic acidosis. When I was in Barcelona I talked to the researcher in the Trocho Study, Dr. Alemany, who said aspartame could kill 200 million people. No doubt it already has. Since its an abortifacient besides triggering birth defects, mental retardation and behavioral problems, millions of babies have been murdered in their mother's womb. One woman said she lost 7 babies on aspartame and the one who survived is schizophrenic. Then you have to consider those who died of cancer, especially brain tumors, and the fatal neurodegenerative diseases caused by aspartame and discussed in Dr. Roberts medical text as well as books like Excitotoxins: The Taste That Kills by neurosurgeon Russell Blaylock, M.D., and even the interaction of drugs since aspartame interacts with virtually all drugs because of damage to the mitochondria. This includes vaccines.

On your web site it says on Monday 7 July 2008 "The Prime Minister has called for stronger partnerships between Government and the food services industry" yet Food Standards was created specifically to distance the organization from the food services industry so decisions would be based on consumer safety and truth and not industry propaganda. This is disgraceful. You won't get healthier diets, but what you will get is more propaganda saying poisons are safe. Since Food Standards are already closely aligned to industry using their propaganda you already have the problems.

In fact, in a meeting with the European Union when they were doing a review on aspartame, this was also submitted. They deleted it from the record. But, of course, we know OlAF, the anti-fraud organization in the UK, found only one person made the decision, and none of the damning documents on aspartame I brought were used, only those from industry! We do get the picture, Mrs. Griffith-Sackey.

The aspartame manufacturers will tell you, of course, that there is more methanol in oranges than in aspartame, but not telling you that in nature such as oranges there is also ethanol which is the antidote to methanol toxicity and takes it safely out of your body. You will see this on the front page of the journal article above. No ethanol in aspartame. Also aspartame is bound to pectin.

What about molecular chemistry? Here are the molecular weights of the components of aspartame:

Aspartic acid - 116
Phenylalanine - 147
Methyl ester - 31

Total molecular weight of aspartame 294. At that high level of the methyl ester remember it immediately becomes deadly methanol.. It converts to formaldehyde which is embalming fluid, creating adducts, deformed tissues which the immune system attacks, triggering lupus.

If airborne formaldehyde is lethal at microscopic levels, how come its harmless in Coke or coffee in far larger quantities? Some "diet" soda have 4 times as much aspartame as others and yield 1/6 gram per liter of methyl alcohol. This is 1,7000 times the limit HUD in the US set in l984 for airborne formaldehyde. Our innocent children are drinking this potion and its destroying them! (Federal REgister 2/22/84, page 6677).

Neurosurgeon Russell Blaylock, M.D., explains that reactions to aspartame, are toxic, like arsenic and cyanide. Aspartic acid excites brain cells to death. He issued a warning to pilots saying "Aspartame exposure significantly increases formaldehyde in all tissue including the brain and retina. Formaldehyde is a powerful carcinogenic agent."

The article below is on your web site. Why isn't the truth about aspartame instead of industry propaganda? Don't skirt the issue. As long as you keep sending out letters saying aspartame is safe and say that on your web site when its not, you are misleading people in Europe with false information. That links Food Standards as far as you can go with aspartame manufacturers. So you can say you're not but when the information you give is only their deceptive words and not the truth about the deadly components of aspartame Food Standards is indicted as being linked to industry and pushing industry propaganda. "By their fruits you'll know them".

When is this going to stop and you ban aspartame? Do you need more than a quarter of a century of evidence to know its deadly. You have independent scientific peer reviewed research (although you add industry propaganda to it), medical texts, aspartame detoxification clinics, an Aspartame Toxicity Center, millions of web sites warning people off this addictive excitoneurotoxic carcinogenic drug, and organizations like ours who work with countries all over the world to ban it, as well as a movie with all the facts: Sweet Misery: A Poisoned World, http://www.soundandfury.tv

Aspartame was approved in the UK through a business deal with Paul Turner of the agency then and Searle. Parliament was very upset and the story was in the Guardian. No studies were done in the UK.

Why do you persist in giving people false information on aspartame when you, yourself, know its not true. I've given you far too much information including expert's reports and web sites for you to believe it. There is no warning to pregnant women that using aspartame can cause them to lose their baby or there be birth defects, mental retardation, behavioral problems, etc. No wonder there is an epidemic of autism, ADD and ADHD. It would be expected from Dr. Olney's report to the Board of Inquiry of the FDA who agreed with them and revoked the petition for approval. September 6 is Aspartame Awareness Weekend globally. It's time Food Standards banned it like Roger Williams said in Parliament, and 47 other members signed in agreement. A copy is going to Parliament.

UK: Excessive Levels of Methanol in Counterfeit Spar-Brand Imperial Vodka

Aug 22 - Counterfeit Spar-brand Imperial vodka 70cl has been discovered, which contains excessive levels of methanol. So far, counterfeit bottles have been found in Northumberland and North London areas.

As the levels of methanol found in counterfeit Spar-brand Imperial vodka could potentially cause a health risk, this makes the products unsafe for consumption under Article 14 of Regulation (EC) No. 178/2002.

Spar (UK) Ltd, the distributor of genuine Spar-brand Imperial vodka, has advised the Food Standards Agency that the product found is not genuine. Likely distribution of this product has not yet been determined, however a report has been received that this product was available on sale in an independent non-Spar retail outlet.

Spar-brand Imperial vodka sold in Spar (UK) Ltd stores is not affected. If further information on distribution becomes available, local authorities will be advised accordingly.

Label is a copy of an old, pre-2007 version of SPAR 70cl Vodka. The main distinctive marks are that the duty stamp is incorrect and does not fluoresce under UV light. The body of the text is blurred in places, particularly around back label text, and images have some blur.


Bottles of the counterfeit samples are Quinn Glass and identified by the code QI:1445c and a smudged inkjet code reading which looks like 102234 04/08/02. Legitimate bottles used in the genuine process are Rockware glass bottles notated by the following: 700ml66mm followed by two symbols and then the numbers 8809. There is no lot code present on the neck of the counterfeit bottle samples, whereas lot codes are present on all legitimate stock.
