Amendment because of the brain tumors and brain cancer. He said if the FDA violated their own laws who would protect the public. In the FDA investigation they found Searle filtered out cancers and even were found excising brain tumors from the rats and putting them back in the study. When they died they resurrected them on paper. You can understand why the FDA tried to have them indicted for fraud.

I know that trade organizations have to tell who does the funding but I notice you no longer have "funding" on your web site like you use to do. Have you received any funding from the aspartame industry like Ajinomoto, Merisant, or retailers who use aspartame?

The reason I ask is that so many trade organizations take funding from the manufacturer and turn around and defend them. At least I know I won't see the Methanol Institute doing that since you have admitted you're not a medical body or authority.

As an example of what we have to put up with, the American Diabetes Assn actually promotes aspartame for diabetics when, in fact, aspartame can precipitate diabetes, simulates and aggravates diabetic neuropathy and retinopathy, destroys the optic nerve because of the free methyl alcohol, causes diabetics to go into convulsions, and even interacts with insulin. The free methyl alcohol is why so many lose limbs. All this is documented in the medical text, Aspartame Disease: An Ignored Epidemic, http://www.sunsentpress.com, 1000 pages of symptoms and diseases and other horrors triggered or precipitated by aspartame by diabetic specialist, H. J. Roberts, M.D. Dr. Roberts was a member of the ADA for 35 years and they even refused to publish his abstract of aspartame reactors. They could either warn the diabetics to save their lives or sacrifice the diabetics and continue getting funding from the aspartame industry. They choose to sacrifice the diabetics. Dr. Roberts had his paper published in Clinical Research. In 2004 suit was filed against the American Diabetes Assn for pushing aspartame on diabetics with full knowledge of what it would do to the diabetics. They are powerful and got out of it, and still push this chemical poison on diabetics. It's sad when those responsible to solve the problem are the problem. I'm delighted we don't have to worry about the Methanol Institute trying to defend the aspartame industry. However, I would suggest you learn a bit about aspartame so you won't call it a sugar. The public knows that is not correct.

I look forward to hearing from you. I think it would be wonderful if we found the Methanol Institute didn't accept funding from the aspartame industry.

Methanol is a natural occurring alcohol that is omnipresent around the world (and throughout the universe as a gas). We consume it daily when drinking orange juice or wine, when we eat cheese, canned foods and a number of other products, including when we break down sugars like aspartame. There are a number of studies available that analyze the consumption of sugary sodas, and some are more reliable than others. Our recommendation, like with all things in life, is that sugar, aspartame or any other substitute like sucralose, should be consumed in moderation because of the numerous downsides of consuming large amounts of sugars. The beverages are perfectly safe for consumption though, which is why they are widely available today. Concerns about headaches and other side effects from sugar and aspartame are usually reported in users that have numerous beverages in a day – and they can experience withdrawal symptoms, etc from excessive amounts of natural and processed sugars. We are by no means a medical body (we are a trade association), but I think sound advice is simply to limit the amount of any sugary substance you consume for a healthier all around diet!
