If you're a journalist I suggest that you do research before writing such an article. Not only did you not check it out but quoted somebody else who is bias and hadn't checked it out. Everything is a matter of public record. Splenda started off as an insecticide and I once found it listed on a web site as an insecticide. When I pointed it out, they changed it to sweetener. I believe this is the power of industry.
What you don't seem to understand is when studies are done by the manufacturer to defend their product they are always safe. However, when they are done by unbiased independent researchers to get to the truth they show the problems. Even the chief scientist at the FDA testified against them. He said on August 1, 1985 to the Senate that because aspartame caused brain tumors and brain cancer it violated the Delaney Amendment which says if a product causes cancer you can't use it. He also said because it caused cancer in original studies how could the FDA even set an allowable ADI, allowable daily intake. His last words are immortal - "And if the FDA violates its own laws who is left to protect the public.' It also damages the mitochondria and interacts with drugs and vaccines.
About Dr. Morando Soffritti. Ramazzini is an independent organization. Yes, he gave rats aspartame for their entire life because it’s a life time study!!!! Didn't you even check that out? He, in fact, received an award only given two times in history for his work. He is renowned. I was there when it happened.
Some years ago Jerome Bressler retired from the FDA; he was the last of the employees who went through the aspartame wars and wrote the Bressler Report on the shenanigans committed by G. D. Searle. I called him to thank him and he told me the FDA sealed two of the studies that were in the Bressler Report and the public had no idea what they were consuming and to please find them. It took me 8 years to get them but aspartame in original studies triggered neural tube defects: autism, spina bifida, cleft palate, etc. No wonder autism is spreading all over the world. You will also see that G. D. Searle made a deal with the FDA never to allow the public to know, and sealed the studies. Note in the chapter Dr. Monte's house was blown up with him in it, but he survived! Courageous researchers have devoted their lives to alerting the public at great expense to their own safety. Read the book - you won't be able to put it down.

Incidentally, James Turner, Attorney, petitioned the FDA to ban Splenda years ago but today the FDA gets over 50% of their funding from Big Pharma and industry and they are no longer loyal to the public. In l986 a ban on aspartame was taken all the way to the Supreme Court because the free methyl alcohol triggers blindness, and aspartame is a seizure triggering drug that interacts with anti-seizure medication.
